The No.1 website for musicians
update: recording the whole album and choosing between many mics including valve neumanns and neumann Us, the winning combo for our male singer with deep barytone voice was AKG C414 B-XLS and SSL Alpha channel. We tried also several tube pres inc. UA LA-610, several Summit Audio and Tube Tech, but realized that he has his own "tubes" in his throat already so we went for most transparent and clean choice to capture this with no added harmonics. AKD C414 B-XLS recommended for any of similar use and also for almost the whole range of acoustic instruments including piano, ac. guitar and percussion. we had a session female singer and we used neumann M mic instead because she sounded thin and clinic clean through the 414 and we didn't like it.

excellent microphone. i had a chance to work with its predecessors in 80s and 90s in the state radio and I loved their neutral yet pristine and character-full sound. few weeks ago i bought my own and I am amazed how true to reality sound, clean and transparent, it provides. I used it on acoustic guitar and sound effects and the results are superb. I am going to use it also on vocals and piano next week, so lets see the results. chain: SSL Alpha channel mic pre, MOTU traveler, Macbook pro running Logic Studio
