Probably great with guitars, I was using with an Analog synth and got tired of the same sort of patterns it always produced and ended up selling this unit. It mostly is useful for sounds with a very long release and/or reverb.
When used with less "goes to 11" settings, it does start to enter into tremolo/chorus territory, but it was a bit too subtle to be used as such. Otherwise, it seemed good at producing mostly "under water" type noises and things sounding roughly analogous to sample-and-hold type sounds, which my synth could also generate.
Despite all of that -- All the moog stuff is built like a tank. This one doesn't have a very good bypass, however, which requires some level adjustments when turning it off -- it's easier to just turn the mix dial down to 0 when you don't need the effect.
