'Steve fingers' is absolutely right. I use two of these things -
1. in front of my amp to boost the 'mids' of my sound and add input gain for solos.
2. through the 'effects loop' of my amp for use with both channels to boost or cut the frequencies i want (for cleaner sounds) and to boost the vloume of the overall output.
The level controll is certainly stronger in method 2 as it is 'post pre-amp' stage and boosting the output stage level - whereas in the front end of the amp it is boosting the 'pre-amp' stage and once you have 'gain' on your sound it only boost s certain frequencies (like the mids that stand out in a band mix the most) rather than the volume of your sound.
Try both out and see - i did and found uses for both methods, so bought a second one. Only go easy on the 'effects loop' position (method 2 above) as it is fiercly sensitive to adjustments and seroiusly changes your amp sound!
Good Luck!
A really useful pedal. I was thinking that I needed yet another OD pedal for an extra dynamic until I tried one of these out.
Great for those 'one louder' moments and just as useful for colouring a clean sound.
Can be used for those half cocked wah-wah sounds too if you get a bit experimental with the sliders.
One note of caution I would add is be careful with the overall level control as this pedal can really alter your output level.
