Been playing for well over 50 years, you would have broken someones arm to have one of these in the 60s, I think these are great little guitars.
Sounds, well, I've played em all over the years, and trust me get one asap, for this money cant get much better.

It's not the greatest guitar in the world, but for the money ,it is a good axe for beginners( on a tight budget.) It stays in tune remarkably well and is well built. It comes as a package with an amp,but the amp is rubbish.
I'm getting a new axe soon ,a ESP LTD EC100QM but i will not be getting rid of the Yamaha,I'll just downtune it to D and use it for Heavy Metal wig outs.

This was the first guitar I learnt on and I still own today (may not have been the 'U' model but is an ERG121). It is very versatile and can handle clean tones and good hard overdrive rock tones. Purists may say that it is rubbish etc but the build quality is very good, yamaha didn't get a good reputation building crap guitars and of course it's not going to compare to a say £1500 guitar. it does everything I want it to do.
If you are looking to buy this as a first guitar then go for it, I wouldn't get rid of mine. I had the action lowered on mine slightly but this was to my preference but only after i'd been playing for over a year. I did also change the volume and tone knobs for metal ones which gives it a more 'rock' look. It stays in tune without fine and has so far not let me down in three years.

I know its not a great guitar but stopped playing for 3 years and sold everything, just staring again. Its the new 121, i think only differnece is it black/gold instead of chrome. Plays awright for the now. Infact i actually quite like it, good for heavy stuff.
