The rich texture of the Dios Series Bubinga shells is one that cannot be paralleled. Though it's colouor and grain carriesa dark visual appearance, it's tonal body is brigh and focused; projecting with unparalleled attack and volume. This is due to the harder nature of the wood, and heaviness of the shell. It speaks with a voice that is delicate, yet explosive. Shimmering highs and channeled lows are the hallmark of its character, and is definately one which must be played to be believed.

The bottom line

With the Dios, we really liked the choice of sizes, the look of the kit and hardware and many aspects of the sound. The little hardware niggles were disappointing, but shouldn't put you off - they're easy to check for before you buy. Just as Mapex has come into its own as a 'proper' drum brand, good things could come to ddrum and its players in the near future.
