Recently upgraded to Sonar 7 Studio from Sonar 3 Studio for only £59.00 (a real bargain). What can I say that has not already been said by most of the music press – it’s brilliant! (see Computer Music’s review – 10/10)
The only difficulty I am having so far is setting up ACT (Active Controller Technology) to work with my Edirol PCR 1 and PCR 50M, it does not seem to be as ‘simple’ as the blurb makes it out to be as I am having difficulty mapping knobs, buttons & sliders to software, as well as getting ACT to ‘focus’ on only one plug-in at a time, but this might just be me being a bit dense! Not a major deal but it was part of deciding to upgrade. I guess I just need to get a better grip on how to set my controllers up.
Sonar 7 Studio is not the cheapest if you are just starting out, or are a hobby musician, but it will allow you to grow as your knowledge and need grows. As you can often get Sonar LE bundled with Roland / Edirol midi controllers and this might be a good way to get a bit of as feel for how Sonar looks, thought the Sonar Home Studio edition might be better as this feels more like the full product.
I would not hesitate to recommend Sonar 7 Studio and if you can afford to push the boat out and get the Producer edition you get a whole bunch of extra goodies too!
