This compact, gig-ready, 100 Watt, 1x12" combo is a powerhouse of killer tone. Its two footswitchable channels offer a pair of selectable modes – Clean/Crunch on the Clean Channel and OD1/OD2 on the Overdrive Channel. Each channel has independent tone controls for Bass, Middle and Treble, and the Overdrive Channel also features our critically-acclaimed Contour control to ensure that all-important tonal versatility. Higher Gain settings on the Clean Channel will yield a healthy, bluesy overdrive, especially when the ‘Crunch’ mode is selected. This said, when in Clean mode, this channel has bags of headroom which makes high levels of clean performance easily attainable. The Overdrive Channel’s OD1 mode is reminiscent of the throaty drive that has made our vintage amps famous, while OD2 is brimming with modern, high gain aggression. The MG100DFX’s specially-voiced footswitchable DFX section offers Chorus/Delay, Delay, Chorus or Flange effects plus a natural sounding digital Reverb with its own individual level control. Add in our revolutionary FDD technology, a Parallel Effects Loop (with switchable level and Effects Mix control), custom 12" speaker, CD input, Speaker Emulated Headphones and Line Out plus a Master Volume control and you have a world-beating combo.
Its a reasonable starter combo, but i have had issues with the fan from day one (takes a few minutes before it stops making a wirring noise). Whilst the reverb is good, i rarely use the effects and the distorion is a complete disapointment to any metal player, oh and it doesnt like being turned past 12 o'clock on the master volume if u use a pedal to componsate for the distortion. If you like this amp, you'll like a similiar line 6 model a whole lot more
FANTASTIC AMP.
If you're a fairly new guitarist, looking for a step up from your generic 10watt guitar bundle amp, then this is for you.
I use this amp for practicing with my band, and at home in my bedroom. It sounds fantastic loud when jamming, but equally good with headphones or on low volume. I play my Ibanez GRX70 through it, which is like a cut-down RG, kind of like a beginners version.
I can get more or less any sound i want from it, and the effects are very good, especially the reverb.
The CD input function isnt spectacular in terms of sound quality. Playing a two channel sound from a cd/mp3 player, through a single speaker that is being shared by a guitar, isnt going to sound great. I simply play my backing tracks through my speakers attached to my laptop, and use this amp simply what its meant for. This set up works fine for me and I would recommend it.
It sounds good no matter what I play through it, whether its thrash metal or blues. It just takes a bit of tweeking and time to get the sound you want.
This amp gets a lot of criticism from guitarists who either are, A - too 'advanced' for what this amp can give them, or B - don't have the skills to make this amp do what it can. May i remind them that its not made to compete with £££££ valve amps, so it can't really be compared with one. It does what its supposed to do and does it well.
All in all, for the money you cant buy better. I bought this amp for £210 from my local retailer about 1 year ago, and ive had no problems at all. Some people complain of issues with fans, but ive had none, so assuming its a factory fault that has been rectified since.
Would I recommend this amp.........YESSSSS!
A very nice amp, with a lot of potential. However, I had serious problems with the fan, and I have read on other forums about other people who had the same problems with this amp. In the end I had that fan replaced by a bit heavier model, and that did the trick. Maybe by now Marshall has sorted out this problem...
I have had this amp for over a year now and all I have needed is a wah pedal, and a good guitar. I use 2 Ibanez JS 100's. 1 tuned to Eb with 'F' spaced Dimarzio Evolution 2's. The other tuned to E with 'F' spaced Dimarzio Breeds and have no problem either with or without crunch for that nice 70's tone, overall I am totally satisfied with this amp, it is quite veratile and loud enough for even the loudest of bands. Having used some real crappy second hand amps in the past, that have sounded good, this one really cuts it for me.
Its a great amp for anyone who is in need for a loud enough amp for a garage band or what not, just get a good tone from an effects pedal dont use the amp distortion its poor but the reverb is exellent however..
