The No.1 website for musicians
The Blues Junior, a warm-toned favorite, takes our 15-watt tube preamp/power amp platform and pushes it through a 12” Fender Special Design speaker.
That sound comes courtesy of a pair of EL-84 Groove Tube output tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes. I have the Lacquered Tweed version with Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. I purchased it for smaller gigs where my Blues Reissue is just too loud. Although this amp has only 15 watts, it's loud enough to cut through the mix of our classic rock band. I had it on max. 7 on the volume level. Pedals in front of the amp work fine. The sound is huge, you would not expect it from such a small amp. Volume and master volume work great together. The only drawback for me: Reverb is not foot-switchable.
I have the NOS Lacquered Tweed version with the up-graded Jensen speaker. This is a wonderful amp for clean to gritty blues and it can get surprisingly loud for it's 15 watts output. The reverb is very lush and can be used for surf style music, while the treble, middle, bass and volume controls are well voiced for a variety of tones. The master volume can keep every thing controllable for home or recording use and it will take any pedal you can think of. A great value for classic rock , blues and pop. Don't expect to use it as a metal amp as that genre was not considered, thank god, for this. Any guitar I play though it will shine with it's own sonic character. A lovely amp, with out question. I recommend the Fender Blues Junior to any and all guitarists who are looking for a value tube amp.
