Shure unveils three USB mic products

Two condensers and an XLR adapter

Shure might just be the best-known mic manufacturer in the world (its SM58 is legendary), so the only surprising thing about its decision to get into the world of USB recording is that it's taken so long for it to be made.

The company actually has three new products: the PG27USB and PG42USB condenser mics and the X2u XLR-to-USB Adapter.

Both the PG27USB and PG42USB feature a large diaphragm capsule, a preamp with mic gain control, zero-latency monitoring, a headphone jack and a monitor mix control.

However, while the PG27USB has a flat, neutral response and is suitable for recording a wide range of instrument and vocal performances, the PG42USB is designed specifically for capturing lead vocals.

The X2u XLR-to-USB adapter looks similar to Blue's Icicle and CEntrance's MicPort Pro in that enables you to turn any standard XLR mic into a USB one. A phantom power option means that it's compatible with condenser models, and you also get many of the features of the PG27USB and PG42USB listed above.

We don't yet know when the three products will be rolling out, but US prices are anticipated to be $199 for the PG27USB, $249 for the PG42USB and $129 for the X2u Adapter.
