Good on Slash for laying down guitars on R&B star Estelle's new song, which the Velvet Revolver axeman tweeted this morning. It got us thinking that there have been some inspired (and some not so inspired) guest guitar spots in the past, so here's our pick of Guitar's Top 10 Collaborations:
1. Slash and Lenny Kravitz
The Guns N' Roses axeman took a break from world domination in 1991 to lay down one of the tastiest rock licks ever on Lenny's classic track Always On The Run.
Next page: Eddie Van Halen and a certain King Of Pop
2. Eddie Van Halen and Michael Jackson
In 1982 who did MJ call on when he needed a hard rockin' solo for his pop anthem Beat It? The most notorious guitar player of the decade, one Eddie Van Halen, that's who...
3. Paul Weller and Oasis
The Modfather lent his lead guitar skills to Oasis' massive 1995 anthem Champagne Supernova and has remained big buddies with the Manc rockers ever since.
4. Dave Navarro and Christina Aguilera
Jane's Addiction and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro played the seriously dirty riff on Miss Aguilera's massive 2003 hit Fighter.
5. Bruce Springsteen and The Gaslight Anthem
New Jersey rockers The Gaslight Anthem officially became the luckiest bastards on earth when they were joined on stage by The Boss to play their track The 59 Sound at Hard Rock Calling 09!
6. Dave Grohl and Tenacious D
Multi-instrumentalist (mentalist) Foo Fighter Dave Grohl ripped a shredding solo out of his backside on Tenacious D's debut hit Tribute in 2002. He also looked pretty cool as the Demon in the music vid...
7. Kaki King and Foo Fighters
Acclaimed acoustic guitarist Kaki King played some tasty fingerpickin' on Foo Fighters' 2007 track Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners.
8. Aerosmith and Run DMC
The 1986 collaboration on Walk This Way between rock titans Aerosmith and hip-hop giants Run DMC has been widely credited as being the first ever rap rock song...
9. Eric Clapton and George Harrison
Clapton provided the beautiful wailing solo on the George Harrison-penned While My Guitar Gently Weeps, from The Beatles' legendary White Album in 1968.
10. Jimmy Page, Tom Morello and P Diddy
Jimmy Page donated the riff to Kashmir for Mr Diddy (then Puff Daddy) to shout over for the Godzilla soundtrack in 1998, and appeared in the official video. Tom Morello also remixed another version for the CD single, with additional live guitar parts from himself.
