Slash plans his first solo album

"I'm working on it pretty aggressively"

Velvet Revolver is on a forced hiatus, what with the recent defection of singer Scott Weiland to his first band, Stone Temple Pillots. But that isn't keeping Slash idle - he's working on a solo album.

The guitarist tells Spinner.com, "I'm working on it pretty aggressively right now while I have the time, 'cause as soon as Velvet finds its singer, then it's going to be off to the races with that. I'm using this little period to be able to do as much on my solo record as possible. I'm not sure exactly when it will come out, but hopefully it will come out before the Velvet record."

Although Slash has released other records under the name Slash's Snakepit, he says this album will be his first de facto solo effort. "All the other ones were just me putting other bands together and going out and just jamming. This will actually be a little bit more personal."

But all is not lost for Velvet Revolver. Slash has also been working with the singer-less band on new material. According to bassist Duff McKagan, a dozen songs are already written.
