James Brown's possessions to be auctioned

Judge gives sale to go-ahead

First, the good news: There is a cape. Now, the bad news: It could cost you $20,000 or more.

On Thursday, July 17, more than 300 of James Brown's personal belongings are set to be auctioned off at Christie's in New York.

The Godfather Of Soul's belongings - ranging from a red 'Sex' jumpsuit to a blue satin cape embroidered with 'Thy Name Is Godfather Of Soul' in rhinestone to furniture to platinum records, handwritten lyrics and other assorted items - will go under the hammer to the highest bidder.

Brown's belongings are expected to fetch $1 million.

Christie's Auction House is confident about the upcoming event despite a legal battle between trustees of his estate and two of Brown's former business partners. The latter of the two requested an emergency stay of the sale last week but according to the New York Daily News organizers are confident that the sale will proceed as planned.

For a full view of items up for bid, visit the James Brown Collection at the Christie's website. There is also a section on the site that will allow you to watch the auction live and bid online.
