Is Scott Weiland already quitting Stone Temple Pilots?
This year Scott Weiland left Velvet Revolver to rejoin his old band, Stone Temple Pilots, and now it seems that he could be saying goodbye to them, as well.
In an interview with USA Today, Weiland spoke about the possibility of a new studio album from Stone Temple Pilots. The bandhas just completed an extensive and highly successful US reunion tour. Fans are clamoring for a new album, but Weiland is on the fence.
"My goal in STP was to leave an imprint. That was done" Scott Weiland
"When you commit to a band that big that sold so many records and touched that many people, you can't easily get out of it," he says. "I'm finally on my own, at a place I've wanted to be for so long."
So he's not a stay-in-one-place-for-very-long kind of guy anymore, at least that's how it appears. "My goal in STP was to leave an imprint," he says. "That was done. I want to move forward and be in control of what I do musically. I have kids, and I don't want to spend my life on the road."
'Happy' with new album
Whether it's with Stone Temple Pilots or not, Weiland sees himself continuing to make music, and to that end he's just released his second solo album, Happy In Galoshes. "This record has helped a lot. I was focused. I'm doing what I want to do creatively, and that's kept me going."
Maybe so. But if this recent solo performance in New York City is any indication of Scott Weiland 'moving forward,' we say don't quit that STP gig just yet.
