Well, picked it up this morning..

So far, liking it a lot (after a few hours playing).. love the looks.. getting used to the thick neck (it's even thicker than my Custom), Can't decide on the Bigsby..

...tuning stability sucks!!

I'll probably give it a few more days then pop it in for a full setup to check everything out and get it re-strung with 11s.

Glad it's going well....needs some Fret Doctor on that board though

If you need the number of a 'Bigsby Guru' in Newcastle, just let me know. I'd say you'll really be able to judge it once the setup issues are fixed Si. After that then if it's not for you, it's never going to be.

Cheers and enjoy,
Hugh

Yea, going to pop into town on Monday and see if anywhere local has Fret Doctor, otherwise I'll order some online, the board is a little dry...

I usually get my stuff setup my Neil in Sounds Live (used to be in Sound Control), but if you know anyone else let me know.

Si, you could try John at JXG in the Ouseburn near The Cluny if you get stuck. I haven't used him but heard good things about him from others. Contact details on his web page

John @ JXG is a good friend of mine and has made me a couple of guitars as well (see the most recent one below) as looking after the 'flock' I have too. Top guy and highly recommended in my opinion.....and yes, he knows Bigsby's VERY well too!

Cheers
Hugh

I like that guitar. Enjoy!
Goji's right, of course.

This is a set-up issue:

1) remember it's a Bigsby - rockabilly warbles, country hiccups and feedback siren noises not divebombing and similar tastelessness

2) you really need heavy strings - look at 11s as a bare minimum. If you can stand flatwounds, so much the better. Really stretch and play them in after fitting.

3) get some Nut Sauce or Vaseline'n'graphite on the nut and the bridge

4) roller bridges help a lot, but if not, keep the saddles well lubed and rock solid

5) make sure the machine heads are good and tight

+1

Keep the Bigbsy!

As Goji said, 11s as bare minimums - my LP is strung with 12's, and i couldn't do with any lighter.

I saw this gold top on Ebay the other day.... Looks nice, I like the Bigsby and agree 11s or above for good tuning stability.
