hello folks,
i was wondering if the original plugins (not CMusys) will ever be revised and updated... i think the feature set of DS-404 is quite excellent, its design and sound quality is way better than Paax... yet, it has some bugs that seem to never have been ironed out. The developers of all the plugins, from my understanding, all still exist, so... why not? cheers! -jace |

I believe that updates to the early CM Studio instruments is highly unlikely. Three of original core set: DS-404, CM-101, and SR-202 were programmed by Muon Software, presumably under some contract or another with CM. Muon also provided support and updates for a period of time, but eventually the arrangement ended. I'd expect the other early plug-ins were produced under similar arrangements. I believe at the time they were made, there were far fewer high-quality inexpensive or free plug-ins available than there are today. But given today's world, it's just really hard to see CM investing in updates to those older instruments. You could, for example, use HighLife in place of DS-404 and have an up-to-date sampler with some very cool features and an active developer and community.
I think CM always viewed that stuff as kit to "get you started" (but highly capable, nonetheless), and expected that as people's experience grew and their horizons expanded they'd supplement or replace it with other stuff. My uninformed $.02 worth. DaveL |

all valid reasoning, but i still think they should contract an update to everything since we've gone to new versions of operating systems, VST hosts and such and the software is still some of the better freeware (well, magazine-ware) out there. if i want complex tools, i'll use the payware i bought (such as NI products), but if i want to sketch out ideas or force myself to focus more on the music than the tools, the CM studio stuff makes a great choice. i know of several bugs that have been noted for some time but never were corrected (such as the bug in the 202 plugin where it will not make a sound unless the UI is opened at least once per session - seen by me repeatedly in Cakewalk Sonar, and the crashes in DS-404 that happen when working with samples in the setup of a patch).
here's another reason: http://forum.midiaddict.com/viewtopi...asc&highlight= sigh. |
