Nobody said it wasn't compulsory.........

Van Halen. The dude shreds, but I reckon he actually has one solo, and just plays it every song. Like dragonforce. That stuff sounds like my modem when I pick up the phone, non-stop at 1000 MPH. I think anything too constantly OTT ruins it. The whole point of super-speedage is to whack it in after a slow bit and make everyone poop themselves.

Every solo Eddie Van Halen ever took in his life. I think he's a f*cking terrible lead guitarist. I don't understand how someone who uses a lead break to contribute nothing of any memorable melodic, musical or emotive value can possibly be so revered. I think he's a tremendous rhythm guitarist but, in my opinion his solos are simply useless works of foul ugliness and pointless tapped licks.

There. I said it.

What else?

Freebird. Jesus, give us a break. Are you done indulging? Thanks for targetting all the notes that make me want to puke. Thanks for stringing it out for 40 minutes too.

Almost everything Richie Blackmore ever done. Wow, can that guy disappear up his own ass with tremendous proficiency or what? There was only one good soloist in the Purps, and his name was Jon Lord.

Ditto for Kirk Hammett. Congratulations for keeping up with Hetfield on the rhythm stuff - definitely no mean feat. Too bad you apparently only know one scale, have the worst note choice of all time and still haven't figured out how to properly use a damn wah pedal - yet insist on trying on every f*cking solo. Kudos for the Shortest Straw solo though, I liked that.

Jimmy Page - Heartbreaker. Yeah, sue me. The unaccompanied bit. Come back when you've learned how to bend strings correctly, you sloppy sloppy man.

Keef Richards, Sympathy For t'Devil. You have nothing to say, but you insist on soloing. Stick to rhythm, you old fart.

Joe Perry on Walk This Way. Any notes other than the ones you actually used woulda been ideal.

That'll be me universally loathed by 83% of guitarists then.

Heh! Heh! Heh! It's funny, i like all of those guitarists but at the same time I completely agree with you! How very strange, here's another, Andy Summers for the solo in Sue Lawley, sorry so lonely! Utterly ruins the song! Sounds like Francis Rossi on a very very bad day! Truly horrifying!

haha I actually quite like the original demo version of Freebird, it's something like 12 minutes long.....and just as the guitarist winds up for the big end solo, he snaps a string but the band keep playing on and on....just those three chords...whilst he restrings the guitar and then comes back in after a 3-4 minute break of nothingness on exactly the same note that he snapped the string on hahaha.
