The reason I mentioned commercial spam is that I do not deal with moderation other than deleting commercial spam. This stuff isn't part of my remit; either no-one reported it or the admins felt it didn't warrant deletion and/or banning.

Paulo was (yet again) trying to score points off me by complaining about my moderation. In order to do this he (yet again) tried to suggest that I am a full moderator, whereas I've explained to him countless times that I just deal with commercial spam - the flood posts about cheap shoes or knock-off iPods or street teamers. The one time I did do some other moderation was to try to help him out - at his request and the request of a number of other members - and he's been pissy about it ever since.

As far as Cefobe goes I just don't care. I didn't click any of his links and he didn't bother me. I can understand entirely why some people found his approach rather irritating, but all that can be done in such instances is to report his posts to the admins who can decide whether it warrants further action. It is, for the umpteenth plus oneth time, nothign to do with my spam-busting status because (while I accept your points about the click-through revenue) it's not out-and-out off-topic commercial spambotting.

I have no desire to get involved with that, but if that was your opinion of his post you shouldn't have brought me into it by name. Given that, this will be my last post on this matter.

I don't understand two things. Firstly, "for the umpteenth time": it's you who keeps saying it, and that's why I responded to it, and tried to shed fresh light. Secondly, I don't know how you can both accept my new information, and also ontinue to claim it's outside your remit. It makes no sense to me.

Finally: your claim that "all you can do if you don't like it is report to admins" (sorry for paraphrasing) is obtusely naive, given the fact that the entire reason you are posting on this matter now is that we as a forum have, intentionally or otherwise, not only stopped this guy posting/spamming (delete according to opinion) but had all his posts deleted, without the involvement of any admins.

I'd be happy to hear a response to that and would read it carefully, and equally would understand if you've had enough of this, but I won't respond again myself.

My warmest regards to you Sporky and also Paulo. Whatever your issues are: someone just died. Get some persepctive, and get over it!

I'm unsure how I can respond to either of you then. Paulo commented on what I'd said about your posts. How can I reply to that without reference to you? Similarly how can I respond to you on the same subject without reference to Paulo?

Because it is not (and I am repeating myself here) "flood posts about cheap shoes or knock-off iPods or street teamers". If I was to delete everything even remotely commercial that'd include people's gig pimps, announcements of CDs for sale by forumites and so on - not at all what Musicradar want me to do. I delete spambots. Cefobe did engage with people on occasion - not often, certainly, but he was clearly an actual human being posting videos he'd made. I certainly have sympathy for those who found him irritating, but he doesn't fit the criteria for me to delete him so it was a call for the admins to take.

Let me try once more. My spam-busting remit extends to spambots posting about cheap shoes, knock-off iPods, WOW powerlevelling (whatever that is) and other irrelevant crap. I also delete stream teamer posts and other blatant commercial spam. I don't delete people pimping their own gigs, CDs, small side businesses and suchlike. These extents are agreed and discussed with the admin team - it's their forum and their say.

If I left the sort of posts that I get rid of for a week it'd be pretty clear what I mean!

Well, yes, you can take the piss until people leave. However, as you'll be aware, that's against the terms and conditions.

It's a bit like if you have noisy neighbours, and someone says "All you can do is complain to the council". Obviously you can go 'round with a pickaxe and murder them, but that's somewhat outside the bounds of normal, acceptable behaviour and as such isn't normally mentioned as a solution to the problem.

Anyways, he's gone. Big pat on the back all 'round and let's move on to someone else.

Yeah, you wouldn't want musicians posting links to things they've actually played on a musicians forum, that'd be awful

always found cefobe quite amusing meself

Indeed. If only he'd made the occasional post about hobnobs or his morning poo.
