Hi. For some reason the left speaker has lower depth frequency, uneven to the right speaker, as in the right having higher. Both monitors are set to -1dB H/F and +6dB Vol. These are the best settings that fit set to my confined room. The T/R/S cables are at different lengths and i swapped these around. Still the same. Also i have lengthy ASHTON cables which i put to test and again, the same. The only way i can make them both equal is by EQ. I should not have to do this. The bottom line is; is it possible that the speaker is on its way out, because if it is, that really sux. Iv'e only had them for a couple of years and they have sir passed there warranty date. Any suggestions?

Have you contacted KRK to see about a repair? Unfortunately. Stuff just doesn't last these days. Even expensive stuff. |

Not a bad idea ! i'll check out what you have quoted. I should have realised that reference monitors are more sofisticated than the old conventional type speakers. Once they go, you toss'em away. Thanks for your hint . d:?) |

Have you tried physically swopping the speakers around?
Your room is likely to be more out of whack than even cheap monitors! That said I note that the 5's are specc'ed (sos Aug04) as "53Hz to 20kHz +-2dB, now if you were unlucky enough to get one 2dB up and one 2dB down that 4 dB WOULD be noticed! IMO speakers should certainly last decades not years, unless you drive the ***t out of them 12hours a day in which case you went cheap! You want a pair of K&H's! Our Tannoy 5a's e.g. rarely peak to 90dB and they are now 3 years old and show no sign of decay, about the same price as the Rockits. Dave. |

# - Swapped around and the conclusion,, ,,, it's the monitor. # - At the time when i bought them, $ 600.00 - $ 700.00 - Aust/Dol. # - Your right. I should of saved up and spent the extra doe, for a better - grade. I will have to get the monitor serviced, as numbnuts quoted; at a later date. Head phones are just as good. Keeps the neighbours happy. - d:?) |

I'd def. get it sent back to KRK.
If you've checked power cables and swapped them over - then you've done everything. Speaker cables under 10ft won't do anything to change, unless it's a faulty cable which again you've done. KRKs have good standing for their built quality,.. I rarely hear of them breaking - sound quality is a different matter ![]() Phone them up dude! |

It may well be that you have been monitoring at too high a level. Noods' says they are hard speakers to break, well maybe but everything has its limits!
You should be listening at an average SPL of around 83dBA, there is much information about this if you Googe about. You will of course need a sound level meter but is does not need to be of NPLab quality or price, you can get one starting around £25.00. It is natural that people crank things till they sound "good" or maybe the word should be exciting! That is fine for listening pleasure (if the kit can stand it!) but will result in bad mixes. Dave. |

Sorry Noods'
I wasn't clear. I meant that he MAY have be hitting them too hard and forked one. Once all is fixed he can then investigate calibrating the system. Dave. |
