Default Things I've learnt from Wilco tonight

Things Ive learnt from Wilco tonight:

- Nels Cline is now my new favourite guitarist

- that you can go into modal soloing when playing with an alt.country indie band -Nels was playing in mixolydian and lydian a lot I believe,

- that Jazzmasters sound cool - I've only ever heard them used for surf music, or totally grunged up through Big Muffs with loads of gain, but this guy had a fantastic tone which was a transparent overdrive kind of sound that allowed the flutey, almost tubular bells sound of the JM to come through.

- that you can get away with a lot of treble if you volume swell it in gradually - again, Nels on the Jazzmaster.

- that a lot of what I thought was pedal steel on the album is Nels with the Jazzmaster

- that I need a jazzmaster.

- that 12-string black-guard Teles exist, look great & sound great.

Great gig, great playing!

Great band.
I wasn't really sure how Nels' would fit in (I always thought he was some kind of avante-guard noise monger) but it seems to have been an inspired pairing.
Loved the last CD, think I'll put it on now to float off to sleep with.

PS:
I rather like the look of the new Classic Player Jazzmaster but I'm not sure about how the hotter pickups will sound:

Jazzmasters are awesome. I am probably buying camf's white one

The classic players sound great- better than stock japanese ones, but the necks are a bit skinny for me.

And yes, Nels Cline is AMAZING

But it's been scientifically proven that black and tortoiseshell ones sound best:
Wilco: Impossible Germany - Nels Cline solo
