Major pentatonic formula =1 2 3 5 6 ie 1=C 2=D 3=E 5=G 6=A if you start by learning the notes on one string ie your E string (top string no6) then your A string (next string down no 5) Then this will be really helpful to you. if you already know these notes then you are on your way! I know this is not what you asked for but it may be of some use. When you can, you may find some diagrams at Cyberfret.com! ps This is for the C maj pent and not the A maj you asked for, I think you may find C major a little less confusing to begin with.

This isn't meant to be patronizing or a clever-dick answer:
Work it out. If you don't know how to work it out, find out how to work it out, then work it out. Seriously, it'll take 5 mins tops, and improve your playing/musicianship more than just finding it on the internet. The major pentatonic is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th notes of the major scale. The notes of the A major scale are A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#. The lowest A on a standard guitar is found at the 5th fret of the low E string.

Work it out on here...we'll check your working
![]() I'd get started with a sheet of graph paper and map out the whole neck for the Cmaj pentatonic (10 minutes)...once you've identified your shapes and roots, it can easily be applied to other keys. |
