Morning chaps and chapettes.
I installed a new 500gb hard drive last night and I've split it into a few lovely partitions, one of which I've put aside to try an alternative OS. The main reason I'd like to do this is to try running REAPER and eventually maybe some video editing software in a better environment than XP. Someone has recommended Ubuntu to me, but I'm not sure about compatibility etc. Is it worth giving it a shot? I've got a 25gb partition purely for this purpose. Any other suggestions?

It's alright.
It's just an OS really, I installed it on an old laptop becuase it was struggling to run XP and I wanted a play with Linux out of curiosity. Unless you have any specific reason to bother doing so I wouldn't, it's just an os and despite what the fan boys will tell you it doesn't really enhance your existance or make you any better looking etc. Tom

Give it a go, if you don't like it try other distros. The beauty of Linux is that if you don't like one permutation of it, there are many more to try, or you can easily customise it.
