Ok, i bought a JTM45 with matching 1960ax cab loaded with 4 celestion greenbacks and surprise surprise! The cab wont fit in my car..
Now i have a couple of more practical amps that are, um, car sized, but i want to be able to gig with the Marshall and am thinking along the lines of a 1x12 cab or possibly even a 2x12, no, lets just keep it real for a moment, it would have to be a 1x12. A JTM45 head is what? 30 watts or something so theres a whole bunch of loudspeakers i could use with it, i like celestion greenbacks but they are rated at 25 watts each so a 1x12 cab with a greenback probably wouldnt work for me, i love the old jensen alnico magnet speakers but these are usually not meant to be driven by amps rated above 20 watts or so although celestion have one available (celestion gold i think its called) thats supposed to handle 50 watt amps.. (Has anyone here tried/used one of those speakers?) I was offered a marshall 1x12 cab loaded with a celestion blue speaker for a really nice price but i think the JTM45 would probably kill that speaker, i do tend to run the amp with the volume at around 5 at least, usually a bit louder. So guys, help me here, whats a good 12 inch speaker to use with a JTM45? |

A 1x12 will only fit in your car?
I can get my full rig in the back of my Clio. That's a head, 4x12, 2 guitars, pedal board, etc. Alternatively, I can get an entire PA and monitors in. You need to try a wee bit harder! That cabs too good to leave in the house. K |

Its a Ford Focus, i can lay the back seats forward but theres an impossible v shaped angle to the trunk, also the rear doors dont open as far as i would want them to so that doesnt work either..
Theres plenty of space in the trunk/back seat, it just isnt 1960ax shaped.. ![]() I live in Iceland and recession hit us pretty hard this year so buying a new car is out of the question at the moment, i did consider adding a hook to the rear fender and getting a cart (is it called a cart? wagon? sorry my english vocabulary isnt all that great) but the problem with buying a cart is that i dont have a garage to store it in so chances are somebody would steal it within a few days. My bands rehearsal space is a half hour drive from where i live, we share a room with a couple of bands and i refuse to leave my gear there, we play gigs every so often all over the place and i really need to make my setup a little more portable, im currently gigging/rehearsing with a Gibson amplifier from 1965 and while that has to be the best sounding amplifier i have ever owned i get nervous every time i use it, its just not meant for gigging, it belongs in a safer enviroment. |

Go for a 2x12. Perhaps this?

the celestion g12 century are superb speakers. they are 80w and sound amazing. much better than a vintage 30 in my opinion. its also the loudest speaker celestion make. check them out if possible.

I run my 50w 1987x through a JTM60 2x12. The cabinet doesn't take up much more space than my Laney VC30 1x12 combo. Fits nicely in the back of the car (old style Honda Civic Hatchback) along with the rest of my gubbins, 2 guitars, Pedal boards, bag of leads etc. Also have had the Laney in the back seat along with that little lot with plenty of room to spare.
