After some reasonable success with improvised guitars I think I'm ready to build something from scratch. Can someone recommend me some good books to read about building (and repairing) guitars?

Can't recommend any books per se but if youve got the cash (and if its available) get yourself down to Neils last DIY course, its brilliant! Best of all you'll learn enough skills over the week to come away and feel confident enough to build pretty much whatever you want after

This is generally accepted as the bible on guitar-building, though it's a little outdated in its presentation (ie few, b&w pics).
There's an updated one by a different author, but I can't remember his name right now! [edit] Here's the second one. Last edited by TTony : 07-09-2009 at 09:55 PM. |

I'd love to GuitarGeek but I really can't afford that. Maybe next year
![]() Cheers Ttony, theres a used one there for a tenner so I'll look into that. My next project is a resonator though, so if theres anything you can recommend for acoustic building that'd be sweet.

I think Neil said that the August one will be the last one. There's the Bailey course too, though from what TTony said that's more a build-a-guitar course, whereas Neil's is a "how to build guitars" course. Where you also build a guitar. If that makes sense.
