Basically, if you can't find work we'll find work for you. How can it possibly be feasible?

You may ask how it can possibly be feasible, but don't forget that this is exactly what people have been suggesting as a remedy for perennial benefit claimants. Money-wise, it'll probably almost balance because of all the benefits the government won't be paying any more.

I really hope it is feasible. I know a number of people who this is aimed at who have basically deliberately embarked upon a benefit-based career.

It'll be interesting to see how the "obligation" will work.

Without wanting to sound too manic ( ) it does suggest state slavery.

I see where you're coming from. but with a lot of young people getting offered jobs like cleaning the streets or whatever most would prefer to sit on their ass, collecting their benefits and watching Jeremy Kyle.

However, if they're offered a job, and get their benefits cut if they dont take it, it sounds like a good plan (in theory)

Exactly - everybody complains about the Polish etc coming over and stealing our jobs. Seems to me that this solves the problem.

Of course, the job you get "obligated" to take doesn't have to be a permanent thing - I see it intended to bring people back into the workforce, rather than provide them with a career for the rest of their lives. Time will tell how it works out, though.

I think that a lot of our politicians are broadly in agreement that this should be done - Cameron's only criticism of the scheme appears to be that it's too expensive. If that's the only thing wrong with it, then it's probably worth it given the benefits (no pun intended) it can bring for the future in terms of getting rid of the free ride culture that seems to be breeding here.

Basically, the jobs Polish immigrants have too much dignity to take, I'd bet.

"There's your lathe, it doesn't have a safety guiard, being pre war, so don't chop your fucking hands off!...

...Well, off you go!"

Scary.

There's mandatory training courses and such already - currently the terminally work-shy just sign off (or stop signing on), wait a few weeks for the clocks to reset and then start a fresh claim.

Can't see this being any different.

I've no complaint with that basis. It originally sounded a bit national-service-by-stealth.
