so this could be a stupid question but what the hell...
Ive got a fender BDRI which doesnt as such have an effects loop but does have pre amp out / in which I understand is pretty much the same thing. At the moment Im using pedals direct from guitar before the amp, but I may have a couple more pedals that arent direct bypass on thier way so (silly question time) if I run the pedals through the pre amp loop would this affect the sound (with all the pedals off) in the same way as if I was running them from guitar before the amp???

Yeah as I understand it Fender just name it different. The debate always lies in time based FX (Chorus, Delay etc) coming after the pre-amp and if that gives a better or worse sound than plugging them just in the front end.
Guitar > FX (All)> Preamp > Power amp > Speaker or Guitar > FX (Drive, Wah, Comp etc) > Pre-amp >FX (Delay etc)>Power amp>Speaker I personally like a loop. Loads of people dont care and tbh im probably just set in my ways more than anything. Answer = Try both ways and trust your ears!! |

simlar question has been bothering me bigdawg! I've been running the delay in the signal chain before the amp, and it wasn't great, so I'm planning on switching it to the loop.
