Default Dremels etc.

I've wanted one of these since I first saw them advertised on an American cable advert in 1995 and I think I can finally justify actually buying one!

I've found this deal, which seems like pretty good value.

Question is, does it need to be dremel? I've seen some other rotary tools that are a bit cheaper, but that particular deal seems pretty good. Are there other tools that are as good and cheaper?

I have two Dremels and one cheapo copy. The cheapo copy works but is much noisier, a bit shakier and gets hot faster.

I'd be inclined to suggest that most of the extras in that kit aren't going to be that much use. I'd also strongly recommend the cordless Dremel - it really is a lot more handy for most jobs, and isn't lacking in grunt.

Dremels are great. My father used to have one that I would use now and then for model making as a lad but they've come on a lot since then.

Definitely.

Cordless is far handier for the sort of thing that I use my Dremel for.

I found mine on evilBay for about £60 I think. Absolute bargain.

If you do go for the non-kosher version, this looks a very good deal

I'd love a cordless one but they are twice the price...
Are they slightly heavier due to the battery or much the same? LIon batteries are well light so I guess it can't be that much heavier.

Hmmm.... torn now!

I think the battery one may be lighter because of the weight of the cable!
