I say this as when I went looking for a Gibson SG in March, people were trying to sell them on ebay for £900 for a clean one and £700 ish for a tatty one. After spending weeks looking I found a guy on Gumtree with a clean 2005 example for £650. I mean used dealer prices were cheaper than Ebay.
Now more recently I want to buy a Contax G1/G2 rangefinder camera and again its got to the point where dealer prices are actually cheaper than private sellers on Ebay like by £100. Is it not just people getting addicted to the auction rather than buying at a sensible and fair price. |

Also i find people tend to 'expect' ebay to be cheaper as that used to be the first port of call for a bargain.
I was looking at getting some of those behringer C2 stereo mics and most places on ebay were same if not more than all the online stores! |

Partly that, partly that people haven't yet clocked onto the fact that Ebay and Paypal fees are extortionate, so sellers are sticking prices up to cover for that.
Forum classifieds FTW!

Behinger is a crazy product line because they have insane distribution ideas which means it's virtually impossible for any dealers to make any kind of margin from them, so prices in general are rock bottom margin so therefore the price will be pretty stable everywhere. Going any lower and the dealer will be losing money. In fact, any dealer selling on eBay probably is losing money, this is why I don't sell on eBay anymore, the fees make it completely pointless as a business sales channel.

I've got to the point with Ebay wher I only ever buy stuff (that is reasonably priced) through BIN, I can't be arsed with the auction stuff as it always ends up being more expensive than buying through a normal shop as there is some dimwit scroat bidding against you as he/she thinks that because its Ebay, then its a good deal....
And then you have Paypal, the fees are a joke....it also pisses me off when as a Seller, you can't claim the money in your account until the Buyer leaves you feedback!!!!

Simply not true. I look regularly on Gibson LP & SG Standards and around £650 seems typical for a good'n from what i've mostly seen...and my SG that I got last year was £630 mint and done outside of ebay to save the seller fees and end early. If someone is in the market for an SG and they now cost £1k....if they see a minter goin for like £200 cheaper then many would consider it worthwhile. Tatty ones from what i've mostly seen go around + - £500
