Default Noiseless dirt?

Can anyone recommend a noise-free dirt pedal to drive my Valveking?

Just bought a Peavey Valveking 100w head and while I'm quite pleased with it, the boosted gain channel is a little bit hissy.
Therefore I'm wondering about using a dirt pedal (Rat, Tubescreamer, SD-1 and the like) to drive the non-boosted gain channel to a level of my liking and without any hissing at all.

Is this possible and what do you recommend?

I've had a Biyang OD-7 for a while now and I love it. Dead quiet, three modes (TS, bright and warm) and more than enough gain for an OD pedal. I got mine for under 30 quidlets. I think they've got an OD-8 out now so should be cheap enough, ebay should have 'em. They are built very well with quality components and definately worth a punt.

Why don't you investigate the noise issues in your VK?

Actually Rob, I've got an old Boss FZ-2 - the gain boost mode does exactly what you want. I'm sure one of Sporky's excellent pedals would do you proud 'n all, he may well be along here in a mo.

Because I assume that with the gain on 10 and the boost switch engaged it's bound to be noisy?

But then if you get a pedal that replicates gain levels that high it'll also be noisy.

I second that! I also own one and it wont be leaving my pedalboard anytime soon! Really good sounding pedal for a practically unheard of company. They also have an OD-8x, which allows acess to the op amp(?) so you can experiment with different chips!
