Default Hey Ma', I done made a geetar out of a box and wire and what not

The next level up from a Diddley Bow I made last year. In total this project cost me less than £2. I bought the cigar box from a charity shop, and a piezo transducer and 1/4'' jack from Maplins. The strings are just wire I found lying about my workshop, so you can only tune it up to a certain point, but when I put new strings on my Ibby I'll put the old ones on the CBG.

Sound clips will definitely follow when I get actual strings on it!

Fantastic work!

I take it you know about one-time regular on this forum, Bill Jehle? He's gone into CBGs in a huge way, with his own "how to" DVD and loads of other info... http://www.bellyjellymusic.com/

That may be true, but you could probably sell them to desk jockey dicks like me for about £150 each!

Edit: though don't consider that to be a firm order.

I've not heard of Bill Jehle actually, I'll have to follow that up. I'm quite enjoying learning from my own mistakes though!
I've got some much grander plans for my next project so I might see what he has to say. I've got a notion to make a banjo out of a wok

If I can manage to tune the wire to at least two notes I'll get a recording before the strings go on. I guess it really adds to the improvised nature of the thing.

Hehe yes that is a modified door bolt! I broke a drill-bit just trying to drill through it but it works like a charm. And the 'nut' is a sawn off, filed down, fat-arse bolt.

If I can manage to make something a bit sturdier than this one I fully intend to try and sell them. I've got to act fast though as I do it all in the workshop at work and I'm not sure how much longer I'll be here

I forgot to attach this photo the first time:

So I recorded a quick sample just now. I couldn't really manage any tunings a human would recognise with the stiff wire, but you'll get the idea. Also, I can't play slide guitar worth a damn even if it is in tune.
Nonetheless, here it is
