I've always used brass for electric and acoustic- never got on with glass. Not tried ceramic tho...

Whatever feels and sounds best for you. I use a Dunlop #228 heavy chromed-brass and a gold on brass Rockslide. I find glass slides too cumbersome.

Sonny Landreth and Derek Trucks use glass IIRC. Metal will sound brighter, and ceramic a little fatter and duller than glass I think. Depends what sort of sound you fancy.

I prefer the sound of glass.

Pheww, nearly missed a slide thread and yet another opportunity to mention:

Really usefull resource site for anyone interested in slide plus a chance to support a homegrown industry.

Many years ago I cut one from some old motorbike handlebars. As it's chromed it slides nicely, it's heavy enough to sustain but not too awkward, it doesn't flop around on my finger and the price was ok!

As with many things there is no "best", as it's all down to personal preference. At least slides are for the most part cheap enough to experiment with.

I can safely say that my ceramic one sounds ace on electric.

I just checked.

Very timely, as mine's just broken, I'm not far from Stourbridge and being a total tart the idea of having my name on my slide has massive appeal think I might have to go down and have a play...

I think Muddy Waters used part of a socket wrench set.
