After all the negativity of the "What do you wish you'd bought?" "What do you wish you'd never sold?" threads, lets talk about the good stuff... In fact, let's talk about your single best ever purchase (especially if it's something you still have).
I want to say it's one of the things I bought last week, but I haven't owned those long enough. I'm going to go with my Les Paul Classic Plus. When I got it, it was the most money I'd ever spent on anything. I persuaded my parents that it might appreciate in value, something I never fully believed. For years I felt guilty about blowing my savings. I always played my inferior guitars instead. At 15, I had terrible taste. In fact, instead of buying the Les Paul, I nearly ordered a custom X-shaped guitar with a Floyd and a camo finish. Every time I remember this, I gasp in horror that I almost bought such a worthless piece of crap. I didn't really know a good guitar from a bad one back then. So it's a near miracle that I ended up buying what is, in fact, a brilliant Les Paul. And I bought it for all the wrong reasons: skinny neck, ceramic pickups (which I've now changed), and the colour. It was a complete fluke that I bought something so good, but I did it. Phew. Here it is. ![]() |

My Wechter Nylon string for out and out "total quality". Simply one of the most beautiful, playable, nice sounding and loud guitars I've played.
My Heritage H 575 because the guy in the shop misspriced it. ![]()

I bought my Mesa Boogie Mark IV after 5 mins of walking into the shop. It was a Saturday, and unbeknownst to me, they became a Mesa dealer the Weds gone, I spotted it, bought it, then rocked out.

![]() I would say my black LP Standard, bought from a friend who owned it and let me play it when we visited his place. I knew even less about guitars then than I do now and bought it because it felt right. Fifteen years, 100-odd gigs and 7 IGFs later, it needs a re-fret.

My Ibanez SA320. I bought it from eBay unplayed because it had the piezo bridge, fitted a pair of chrome IronGear Rolling Mills, and then it sat around for a while not really being played very much.
Then I took it along to my tryout for my current band last summer, and it's just so versatile I couldn't believe it. Acoustic sound, just flick the switch for the piezo. Jazzy noodling/chords, one of the tapped coil settings, rock sounds from either of the full humbuckers. Now fitted with a pair of IronGear Hot Slags in zebra stripe, and it really screams. |

My Peavey Classic 20. I don't really own anything particularly 'high value' instrument-wise, as I'm not careful with stuff onstage, but that amp is ace.
Actually, the 70s Slingerland jazz kit I've just bought i excellent too, and may even turn out to be a smart buy on rarity value (someone on the Dolbear forums has already offered to buy it )
