Default Jamming pals...

Ok Im reading more & more on this site that people would love to be able to play with other people, think about gettng a band together etc...

For the moment this is just for people to find others to jam with, get together whatever, but if everyone puts down what theyre looking for, what they play, where they are etc..., anyone looking through can get in touch via here. Dont be put off by peoples ages there are a lot of youthful older people here...

I am looking to start a website up purely for this purpose, but have no idea how to go about it at the moment - if anyone can pm me with how to do it please do..

So to kick this off

Location - Southend
Age - 41 (going on 18)
Styles played - rock, blues, soul, alternative, punk - will pretty much have a go at anything, and 'played' is down to interpretation
Been playing - 14 months but still very much a beginner...
Instruments played - Telecaster, Les Paul

If anyone else can think of any necessary bits Ive missed out feel free to add them...

Also if this is in the wrong place let me know & Ill move it to whereever its supposed to be...

There is a band website somewhere already I think ... can't recall the name but I think Timmyo pointed it out to me.

If you fancy travelling to the Bassment in Wells Street, Chelmsford one Thursday evening we can go and see Guthrie (one of the 7 wonders of the guitar world) and chat about jamming too.

There are a fair few open mics about we can team up and play at some if you like. I'll play pretty much anything and am focussing on performance at present... waddaya reckon? I'm happy to jam too if I can fit it in with me family

the one I used was finding Bands (although I can't find the link right now) - but I think it became paid for rather than free

For us oldies these sites seem to be more aimed at [or perhaps just frequented by] getting experienced players for cover/tribute/pub-rock/function bands. My limited live experience was 20 years ago and I can't get excited about devoting time the forementioned styles. However, I'm jealous of my daughter who is spending the day jamming with school friends. So perhaps an alternative site for those without the experience, talent or desire to do the semi-pro thing but would like some musical companionship would be a good thing.

Well remembered.

I was thinking of putting together a contact site for folk who just wanted to get together in a low key sort of way (rather than band focussed) split up by region. I signed up here to get input (having only lurked previously because you were all a bunch of mad inbred clique-merchants ) and you turned me in to someone more interested in talking about gear than playing :d

(ok, that might have been my fault too lol )

Yeah, totally agree with that. I'm nowhere near good enough to join a band as such, but I would love to be able to get together with people and jam just for the hell of it. I think a site for that would be a top idea.

+1

I'm in Peterborough, 31 years of age, been playing for about 12 years but haven't improved much in the last 8, family and work commitments mean I couldn't be in a band, like most stuff except prog, hard rock and metal, love just jamming for a laugh.

Open mics - I get shy when my girlfirnd walks in the room and recognizes what Im playing... But ultimately that is the goal, I honestly dont know how you go about getting into, or even how to choose what to play for an open mike - Ive never played with anything other than my cd player and a cat for backing... I will be in touch, just got to get a root canal out the way this week...

And is that right Guthrie's playing chelmsford...

Thats exactly what Im talking aboutnot everyone wants to join a band or has the money or time to join a band, just someone to play with once a week to maybe go for an open mike night...

Well firstly if you go to the right open mic you'll find all sorts there and feel more confident of getting up. I only really approached it from the IGF last year and the jam each night. Before that I've jammed with mates for years but never really understood what I was playing - just enjoyed it.

Good luck with the dentistry and gimme a shout, I'll pm my details if you're interested.
