Default Warming up (literally)

My house, being 500 years old, isn't the warmest of places and I just wondered if any of you have any 'techniques' for warming hands before playing? cus my hands are constantly freezing to a point where strings hurt, tried wearing gloves before hand for a bit and no luck =[

Any ideas? thanks

Paaan

Put them in front of the fire, and then run through this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnuFJ2y24nE

Before picking up the guitar I wash my hands in warm water if they're cold - keeps the fretboard cleaner too

Try flicking your hands outward. This forces more blood, and therefore heat, into them.

Our rehearsal studio is freezing this time of year and while it's not for polite company (the rest of the band doesn't count), I'll sometimes have my hands down my trousers between songs to keep my hands warm!

Don't tell me fibs, I know what you're really doing!

I also live in a freezer-like gaff. Main thing is to warm up slowly as trying anything tricky when cold can really damage your hands. I use bits of Vai's 10 hour workout and some stuff from Al DiMeola's Picking Techniques and spend at least 1/2 hour before actually "playing".

Warm water thing works, I just tried it, cheers dafuzz (new thing for the day learnt ). Dry them quickly though or they get even colder!

I thought only NorthFace-ed up scallies on Scotty Road did that!

Armpits are a good place to keep your hands warm.

They're not keeping their hands warm, they're picking the scabs off!
