without a doubt, the best all round mic is the sure sm57 & 58. they are what you may call industry standard. can be had for for around £50 which is i real bargain!
let us know how you get on...

Second-hand Rode NT2 (large capsule studio condensor - totally different animal and markedly better than the NT1 and within your price range second hand)
or Shure SM57A BETA (Awesome for the money. I've got 4 of them in my studio and they are stunning)

The AKG Perception 150 is now silly cheap at dv's.
They are designed for live use but I bought a pair for home recording a week ago. Very impressed so far. Dave. |

my two pence.
buy a rhode nt1a for vocals, acousic guitar etc for about 100 quid. then an sm57/58 for recording your amp, about 50 quid. mic'ing up a guitar amp is dangerous place with a condenser mic, you can but generally the sure sm58 is the done thing. (take a di as well though) |

"mic'ing up a guitar amp is dangerous place with a condenser mic"
Sorry Speed' The P150 can handle 135dBSPL and 145dB with the pad in. Even a 100dBA per watt cab with 1kW going in would not get close to that. NASA perhaps, not anything musical! Dave. |

I would buy two mics for vox and guitar, the NTI is a good all rounder but not ideally suited for mic'ing cabs as it will pick up the acoustic sound of the guitar being played as well as the sound from the cab. A dynamic mic is a better bet in this regard. The old SM57 and 58 are ok in this regard but I prefer the Senn E906, which is a super cardioid mic that's superb for guitar amps.
For vocals you could use a cheap 57 or 58 (same mic with different grills) but the mid boost and lack of detail can be annoying for some styles of singing. Something with a flatter response would be more versatile, Senn E945 works well for home studios as the tight pattern doesn't pick up the sound of the room .... which is handy unless you have a really nice sounding room.
