Sounds like a classic case of blown valve.

And please don't talk like that about the love of my life

sometimes Valve amps go bad - that's the nature of the beast, new valves usually will do the trick - it's the price you pay for tone!!

Most electrical equipment goes bad at some time. As does any other mechanical item. That's the nature of the beast.

There's a few reasons why your amp died. Best have a Tech diagnose it.

Could be the tranny or bias resistor, possibly?

I'm not very well up on these things though.

"had a tech look at it on saturday and they couldnt fix it" ????

How so? Did they offer any explanation? I can see they might be shy of a crucial part like a transformer (heaven forfend!) but just to flatly say they cannot fix a valve amp seems, well, less than professional and does not inspire future confidence.

Andertons don't fix their own stuff btw, they have to send it out to their contracted amp service people (I forget who, but my Randall had been serviced there). They probably gave you a new one in the interests of good customer service

I do like Andertons.
