Thats a nice looking amp, putting a Vintage 30 in it seems to be a common mod.

Fab amp!
As for speaker break-in, I think you'd be hard pushed to tell...it's a very gradual process and only slightly affects the tone. Giving it a good going over at gig volumes will do it! Cheers, James

I'd also recommend the valve upgrade kits from Watford Valves.

I have it's cousin, the Blues Deluxe - great gig amp. Replaced the poor original speaker with an Eminence Cannabis Rex 50w - the original had a "join" in the cone believe it or not, very odd indeed...
The only thing I find is they are all very loud in the early part of the volume pot travel then don't get a lot louder, there seems to be a common mod to alter the volume pot taper so it's a more gradual increase. Also, balancing the volume of the channels is a bit of an art - I set all mine in a rehearsal studio then reset then before a gig in case the controls have moved to avoid killing people at the front My newer model also has better quality input jacks, fixing another common issue these had in the early production runs where the jacks came loose causing failure of the solder joints. You need to bookmark this site too, very useful indeed. http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/ |
