Default extreme unknown progressive music

i've just discovered two incredible bands which no one has ever heard of, so i thought of putting them in this thread. Matching Mole, and Henry Cow.

Then of course there are a few slightly better known bands: Soft Machine, Van Der Graaf Generator, Gong, Hatfield and the North, Camel.

Have a go at listening to them on youtube.com

Well I've heard of both of them – must be my age. John Peel used to play them of his radio show. Matching Mole were made up of ex-members of Soft Machine and caravan.

Me too, and I'm 24, so it's not age.

Phew, it's like 1971 all over again...

Met a bloke at a pub gig we played, who claimed to be Kevin Ayers' bass player in the Wilde Flowers (pre-Soft Machine and Caravan).

How accurate this was, considering Hugh Hopper is said to be the founding bass player of the Wilde Flowers, is open to question, but there's one in every pub...

Don't forget FOCUS, so progressive such that "Anonymus 2" covers more than one side of vinyl on FOCUS 3. Never a sign of any vocals too, except for a bit of yodelling every so often...

Nice...

I do sometimes wish I could have seen all of them first time around clad in the Army Greatcoat uniform of the day (my cousins saw all of these bands - 15+ yrs older than me making them just over 50 now, saw the Stones with Mick Taylor, the Faces and many others too
