Question Softsynths in Sonar 7 issues

Dear All

I've been racking my brain over this and still can't seem to sort it out (it's probably a real obvious MIDI type of thing). Anyway, I'm using Kore player, Rapture LE and Dimension LE in Sonar 7. I am controlling the MIDI with an Oxygen8 V2. I have managed to record using each of the synths on inidividual tracks and that's fine. However, if I want to use the same softsynth but with a different patch, I just can't do it. Any ideas? Is it that these 3 softsynths aren't multi-timbral? Do I have to put in multiple instances of the same synth to access different voices simultaneously? Or is there some obvious MIDI channel type of answer?

Also, when using the Kore player I recorded a track and used the weird little box (kind of top right hand side of the screen) which you can slide around to alter all sorts of parameters in realtime, but when I played it back, the changes to the sound had not been recorded, just the normal patch.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Regards

Hey there,

I'm going off the top of my head (DAW not in front of me!), but if my memory serves me well both Rapture and Dimension LE are 'mono-timbral' - in other words yes, you have to load multiple instances of each to produce more than one sound from those synths.

For your other question I think you're referring to automation? Again, if my memory serves me correctly, you have to enable the automation setting on the VST track in order to 'write' that information to the track. If you look at the information for the track in the track view, you'll see the standard 'mute', 'solo', 'record', 'echo' buttons. Next to that you'll see 'read' and 'write' buttons - I think you need to enable the 'write' button to record automation. Can't confrim for sure as I haven't done it yet (!), so if anyone can contradict or confirm what I've said then it's all good.

Hope that helps a bit!
