Default Social networking = mob rule?

I noticed today a couple of my facebook friends have joined a group naming and shaming Baby Ps' mother and urging everybody to send the pic to their 'friends in prison' so she can get what she deserves.

I'm ambivalent I must admit. Any thoughts?

I was wondering whether something like that would happen.

Is this pretty common then? I was never into facebook until a couple of weeks ago and tbh I'm bored of it already.

Cool avatar btw!

I got invited to join a facebook group in support of Baby P which had the mum and boyfriends name on the wall.

I'm really not surprised, if I am it's because their identities were hidden in the first place.

I was just wondering whether people would be letting their 'friends on the inside' know who it was... along with a bar of soap and a pillow case.

Thanks (re the avatar)

My first thought is, do they have the right name and photo?
My second is, isn't it an offence to incite people to violence?

Wrong, no matter what way you look at it imo.

Yep it's not on.

They also got a group called "Dead babies make me laugh" removed, which was only a group about those dead babies jokes, which are admittedly offensive, but they were acting like all the members were baby killers. Just because some people don't "get" certain types of humour doesn't mean they have the right to censor it.

I'm getting concerned about the way facebook is increasingly being used as a method for a minority to get their way as they are able to form what looks like a majority, but act against the interests of the whole.

My wife got a text with the names and some other schpiel about naming and shaming etc.

I haven't educated myself on the story for several reasons, but I doubt that I have much space in my heart for the offenders. That said, I don't like this Witch Hunt mentality.
