Default PC Health software....?

Does anyone use any software that checks and repairs your PC?

If so, what do you recommend? A quick google check comes up with hundreds of different suggestions but I don't know where to start.

Hi Rob,

Other than the old-skool CHKDSK /F from the command prompt, I find CCleaner pretty useful, particularily the registry cleaner section. Free as well!

I haven't found any which are worth their salt - all I'll say is "be careful", because there's a hell of a lot of snake-oil out there. Anything that claims to speed up your PC is blatantly lying, so avoid. Anything that claims to clean up your PC is probably worth a look.

Only thing that I would recommend is when you get a new PC, install all the applications that you use, get them configured the way that you want them - then backup the PC completely.

Then, every few months or so, copy your documents somewhere safe, and scrub your PC and restore the backup.

The registry cleaner in CCleaner isn't great.

I also run Abexo and Eusing and still suspect that those three miss things.

The general cleaning of CCleaner is excellent. It's an essential bit of software.

Hi Goji,

Have you had problems with the Registry cleaner? Interested because I tend to use it quite frequently and I've not been caught out yet, but I'll be a little more wary if you have!

No, no, nothing like that. The registry cleaner section works fine, it just doesn't catch much compared to dedicated reg cleaners. I use it a lot too, but along with other products (Abexo and Eusing in my case) to catch as much as I can.
