Default discount software.

Hi guys, i have recently started a placement lecturing at my local college and I am sure there are web sites which offer discount on software for lecturers. Does anyone know which sites i can go to for these offers?? (i am based in england).

Give Misco or Pugh Computers a call. They will be able to help with a legitimate education purchase, but you'll probably have to provide proof of entitlement.

Cheers,
James

wel apparently i can get cubase 4 for 233 pound on the pugh website. Im not sure on whether to go PC or mac as PCs are quite a bit cheaper from the look of it. Any advice on specs i should be looking for. Perhaps a quadcore processor with windows xp operating is the way to go??

What do you need the computer for?

Unless you are a pro, I'd steer clear of the big Mac Pros, so if you are set on a desktop Mac it would need to be an iMac (which are plenty powerful). Buy the best processor package you can and then load it up with RAM post purchase. Buy a speedy external drive and a nice soundcard and you are set. A middle range iMac is super powerful and can run huge Logic sessions with dozens of virtual instruments/audio tracks etc.

If you do go Mac, then I'd recommend Logic Pro. It's only £300 and that's before the educational discount.

PCs are cheaper, but even accounting for an educational discount, you can probably pick up the bits separately and still beat any educational discount from a PC supplier.

It's your choice at the end of the day. If budget is the key for you, always buy a cheap PC. If power is your sole criteria get a 8-core Mac Pro. Most people sit somewhere inbetween.

im more used to pc to be fair and especially cubase. The idea would be to get a desktop pc with cubase 4 and then either run a desk through an audio interface or just get an audio interface running through to the computer with 2 or 4 xlr inputs. I would only be home recording. I would not be recording drums although i would probably record them elsewhere and import the audio files for mixing. Also, i would probably use a few virtual instruments so that i could compose relatively easily in my room.

Certainly go for a PC. If it's what you know and enough for your needs.
