Default this month's GT and TG..

...anyone have them?

Is TG's tab of Bon Jovi's Runaway any good? I flippin' love that song!

And do I need Guthrie's Pentatonic stuff in GT, or will I just ignore it rather than spend time trying to digest it and remember the licks etc (as usual) - BTW, it's not stuff that's already in his Creative Guitar books is it? I couldn't see anything like it when I flicked through the books last night, but couldn't be sure.

I suspect I don't need either of them, and would in fact file them saying to myself, 'there's some good stuff in there, I'll look at it one day'!

Bet you're glad you had a look at this thread, it was fascinating, wasn't it?!

Haha, spot on! I've lost count of the copies of GT that I've bought on this premise.

I concur, sir! And at least you can say what you think in proper English! I've been on US-based fora too much recently. I'm surprised some of the posters are even able to differentiate the squiggly signs on the keyboard, their English is that bad!

Oh and Clare: do what I do – allow the accumulation of paper to inspire more practice. It works! Evenif you don't actually play through that stuff, so what? At least you're doing something with your instrument!

And a sort of 'learn by osmosis' style of learning, may work I have to go into Oxford on my way home tonight anyway, so I'll probably struggle to restrain myself from buying at least 1 of them!

I'm guessing you already know the major and minor pentatonics, so you probably haven't missed anything in GT apart from some new licks.

My subs copy of GT arrived this morning, Clare.

I'd say: download guitar pro or powertab and get the most accurate sounding version of Runaway you can from somewhere like Ultimate Guitar rather than buying TG just for one tab.

The Guthrie article sounds great, of course, but I doubt you'll be wanting to nab his shred licks with septuplets as I do! Learning a couple of old blues tunes would be more useful in terms of real pentatonic playing. There's a lot of fancy fretboard diagrams again, but I've not studied them in great detail yet.

In other news, though, the Brent Mason soundalike "chicken picking" stuff is amazing. I'm off to join Bowks behind the bikesheds to fap over it.

The solo from Runaway isn't that hard to learn by ear. Was one of the first solos I ever learnt (the first being the solo from "Shot Through the Heart" by Bon Jovi <Note - not "You give love a bad name">)
