Ive just been offered an Electro Harmonix Hog with an expression pedal and the, um, box that stores programs, the demos for this thing on youtube seem to indicate that this is a cool pedal but i have no way of trying it before i buy it.
Does anyone here own one of these things or have any experience with them? Preferably more experience than having maybe tried it for a few minutes at a music store.. I live in Iceland and these things arent available in any music stores here but i got offered one second hand for less than half of what they cost new in the UK, only problem is i cant try it beforehand but i know the guy who owns it and have bought stuff from him before but since he lives on the other side of the country i cant just pop over to his house to try it before buying it. So whats the verdict on this thing? |

I've got the same set up on my pedal board - it's really cool but isn't something you can use in every song unless you really are experimental! It works great, all the sounds are very cool, the freeze/gliss function is very unique and organ like but takes a bit of practise to get used to. It can do whammy and sweep filter/wah sounds and harmonisation so you get a lot but its up to you whether you really are going to use it to its full potential.

Ive been putting the mental back in experimental since 1989 so i just might find a way to squeeze this thing into every song. ![]() |

Well you should be very happy! You need a lot of pedal board space and it involves dextrous feet!

All the pedals that i gravitate towards take a massive amount of real estate on a pedal board, long gone are the times when i had a boss pedalboard with 5 boss pedals including the power supply.
I remember back in the early 80s when a keyboard playing friend of mine was telling me he wished he had more than 2 hands (this keyboard player had a rather unhealthy obsession with Keith Emerson and i found myself actually wishing he had fewer hands but i digress..) Anyway, these days i find myself wishing i had more feet, in my pedal chain there are 2 wahpedals (one of them doubles as a volume pedal, the other is a Fender Fuzz/wah) there is a Moog Ring modulator with an expression pedal, 3 flavors of overdrive/distortion, a EHX bass synth, a digitech whammy and if things work out as planned i will be adding the Hog + expression pedal and the footswitching box. When i run this effect chain at my studio i add a Maestro Echoplex tape delay at the end of the chain (sometimes the fender fuzz/wah goes after the echoplex in the chain so i can modulate the tape hiss, that makes the echoplex sound like a forest fire, absolutely beautiful noise!) |

Hah! I am a bit GAS sick! Well spotted, its is a Feedbacker/distortion - gotta love 'em!
BTW, you can't see it in the pic but the Hog has an M-Audio expression pedal plugged in and it sits to the side of the board (next to my talk box!). You might like the Digitech expression factory as well given what you say above... |
