Default Does anyone work in the music industry??

I need a change of job, I work in the city but need to get out before my brain shrivels up from boredom.

JUst wanted to know what kind of jobs or careers are available in the music industry as other than musicians (which Im def not good enough to class myself as) I dont really know anyone in the industry.

Any clues tips pointers would be hugely appreciated.

Can you be a bit more specific? If you don't want to be a musician but you want to be involved with music somehow then that's a pretty wide net to cast. Recording engineer? music lawyer? Instrument maker? Instrument Insurance?

That was one of the reasons for the thread I dont know what jobs/ trades are out there.

Two things I really love cycling (racing) and music - I know theres no money in the cycling industry unless your names lance armstrong so I was kinda fishing about.. My one priority though is not to put on a suit a go and sit in an office all day!

Im a creative, intellegent (allegedly) person that sits in an office all day bored. The highlight of my day is coming in to check my emails. Originally I wanted to join the police / fire / paramedics but as Im massively colour blind I couldnt get in to any of them.

I guess there are courses for guitar makers, studio engineers and the like but looking through some of the magazines they all seem really expensive..

Have you thought about journalism, or writing of some sort ?

I knew I was never going to be anywhere near good enough to be a musiscian, but love music. Writing about it made me happy and got me to meet some fantastic people and see how the musicians live... definitely not a sit in the office bored job.

But it is a real pain sifting through hours of interview audio and writing up copy... but hey ho

Have you thought of working your way towards it, via banking or insurance?

I did used to work for a company that insured a lot of concerts (depeche mode, michael jackson (1989 final tour!!), maiden etc... but at the end of the day Im stuck in an office which I promised myself when I was 16 I would'nt do - its really soul destroying.

Trouble is, to be honest, I dont know where to start which is what I guess I was looking for here...

If you list what transferable skills you might have and try to match them against suitable jobs in "the music business", what's the betting you might discover an equally boring job, but just working for a different employer? Selling books or insurance for example would be the same whether the subject was cars, horses, or guitars!
