Default Lustings

My girlfriends dad has just bought a gibson les paul. It is fantastic!

The downside is it has started the urges for a les paul, nice chunky neck like my SG, goldtop...

Just a shame they cost so bloody much!!!

Default Some love em some hate em. I love em!

I own a Les Paul Standard and it's awesome . Yes it cost a lot relative to some guitars, but the enjoyment I get from playing it was worth the financial pain.

imho : get your money ready then just keep a n eye out for a '57 Reissue : budget c. 1600 and you'll get one eventually (sometimes even new if Peter Cooks or somewhere is blowing them out)

Gorgeous chunky neck, proper (metal-based rather than coloured paint) gold finish, and just bloody good - but I'm biased.

Yes you would be biased mr "i own a fucking gorgeous les paul"

Am i right in thinking the traditionals have a 50's chunky neck to them?

dunno I've not played a Traditional.

my point was though, that a s/h 57 Reissue is likely to be an even better guitar, they do come up s/h, and it'll be the same or close to the price of a new non-custom shop model, cos it's the 58 and 59 Reissues that folk pay the big bucks for

I played a Vintage V100 Icon Lemondrop again today. It was absolutely stunning. My V100 is very good indeed but nothing will do if you need that "Gibson" logo.

I think it's unfair to play the "name on the headstock game" because i ain't looking at buying a Vintage

Never said you were, it's a generalist opinion. I'm as guilty of headstock snobbery as the next man!

All I'm saying is that the Lemondrop continues to surprise me at how good it sounds and feels and I'd take that as a benchmark when comparing les pauls!
