Been listening to a pile of old supremes records, that stuff was all way before my time but damn old motown is good.

Any recommendations from that era?

I've actually been listening to The Supremes recently - fantastic stuff. "The Happening" is such a great melody.

I'd recommend the following:-

Stevie Wonder - anything between 1972-1976 - Songs In The Key Of Life is my fave, followed by Innervisions and Talking Book

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On?

Anything by Donny Hathaway - very, very underated.

There's loads more of course but they're some great places to start.

motown - the temptations, early marvin gaye theres really too much to mention thats good - look for a series of albums called Vintage & Rare which had a lot of the harder to find and unknow tracks which are brilliant

The impressions (curtis mayfield) early albums were also really good, although Im not sure how many have actually made it on to cd, although Ive got a couple of great best of albums.

And then of course theres Stax records, possibly the best record label ever to have existed, (and of course every track feature the awesome steve cropper) - you pretty much cant go worng with any stax albums, including the blues brothers albums...

Excellent - I've turned somebody else onto Donny Hathaway. My day is made!

Now go get his live album "Live! Donny Hathaway" - bassist Willie Weeks is on FIRE on that album!
