Default Refret or sell on and get a newer model?

I've had this Yamaha SG1000 which I rarely play, having managed to sort out the scratching issue on the back with some restorative guitar polish. I've realized I dont play her much. I suspect this is due to preferring the Jumbo frets on my Kotzen Telecaster. Which has made me wonder, although the Yammies frets are original, they have been dressed a couple of times and are not as Jumbo as they used to be.

So would I be better selling on my original 1981 SG1000 and buying a newer modelof the same guitar, or should I simply have a refret and keep her?

Depends on your budget vs how much you like the guitar really. It's getting into that collectible period and becoming somewhat "vintage". I don't see the point of losing more money than a re-fret by trying to flog it and get a new one.

I have promised myself that if ANY of my guitars needs a re-fret I'll get it done by a respected Luthier and get it Plek'd.

Also, if you put jumbo frets on it you may end up liking it more than you Kotzen.

My choice would be re-fret.

I think Stainless Steel frets are the way forward too... they'll last years and years and years.

Worth trying a guitar with ss frets first. Some people don't like the feel. Its also a lot more expensive, so you need to be sure the guitar's a keeper.

Sporky has a Nite-Fly with S/S frets and I used to have one too. I liked them a lot and would consider re-fretting all of my guitars with them if it wasn't so damn costly compared to "normal" frets.
