Default Fuzz

Would you say fuzz works better on single note riffs, compared with chords? I know the likes of Josh Homme (and of course Jimi) uses fuzz and wah together to make some great chordal tones, but do you use your fuzz more for single note stuff or chords?

Can depend on the flavour of Fuzz.
Personally I prefer Big Muff type Fuzz on power chords, punk or grunge style and Fuzz Face type Fuzz on single noter lines through a neck pickup (especially the P90 in the neck of my BFG)

No. It works on both, but I think fuzz is really at it's best on power chords.

My question was precipitated by trying to make a decision as to what I should have on my pedalboard! I like the idea of having a fuzz pedal on there (as I like the sound), but I'm not sure how much I'll need it. Also, it sounds good as single notes, but I'm not convinced that I'm happy with the powerchord sound. I think my preference for fuzz may lie with single note use, anyway, and I don't have a wah on the 'board, so I'm even less inclined to use fuzz for chords. So, do I have the fuzz or swap it for the DS-2, which, to my ears at least, has quite a fuzzy tone on the Turbo II setting with the distortion cranked right up (for single note stuff). I am also living in hope that the band will want to some Nirvana tracks at some stage!

I think I may be able to fit both pedals on, but I suspect four dirt pedals may be overkill (the other 2 being the Goji-modied SD-1, and the TC Electronic dual distortion).

Nonsense.
I will, one day, sort my pedal board, and there'll be more than four!

In that case, I might be alright

If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing!

If you're gigging, it's best to have one pedal per tone - even if it's a duplicate. Bending over in the dark twiddling knobs (leave it), with the stress of being on stage is not a good idea.

Bit of masking tape & felt pen describing the tone will also help.
