As you may know, I am attempting to upgrade the electrics in my extremely cheap Tele-a-like. However, I am struggling to understand the wiring, mainly because my Tele is different to the diagrams I've found! I should have expected this when neither the scratchplate or the machineheads fit as standard!
So, the wiring diagram halfway down this page http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/fitpickups.html has the wire to the output jack on the volume pot, whereas my guitar has it from the tone pot- I suspect this may be OK? It also has the capacitor between the volume and tone pots, this I suspect may not be OK? Any guidance very gratefully received! Also, does it matter which 'bits'* of the switch are attached to which pot, and also which 'bit' of the pot? * 'bits' are those little connectors on the switch, of which mine has 8, 6 of which are joined in pairs! They also refer to the 3 connectors on the pots!

The pot lugs do need to be connected as shown in the diagram, or they won't work right. Same for the switch, unless it's a different sort of switch (but from what you say it isn't).
The cap between the volume and tone pots is ok - it's a different way of wiring which has some advantages.
