OK, so I've decided to attempt an upgrade of my cheap Tele, but I'm stuck at choosing pickups.
Firstly, to not really help, I don't know what I want it to sound like, so any rough guides to what pickups sound like what eg. why is a lipstick different to other s/c pups? I don't intend to spend any more than £50 on a set of pups, so that narrows it down somewhat. What's the advantage to buying a matched set over 2 different pups? How on earth do you tell what you like the sound of it none of the websites (apart from Axetec) have soundclips! I do like Axetec's Pig Irons but I want a shiny cover for at least 1 of the pups! If you could make some specific suggestions, that would be even more helpful (I know some of you have in the other thread, so thanks already for that). As an aside, I started soldering my Maplin's kit last night - I wasn't too bad!

Why not the Steel Foundries from the same range? They're tele pups and come in the traditional black/chrome config.

I think they were maybe sold out a few days ago when I looked, so my impatient part wrote them off.I'll take a listen now - you may have just solved my problem, arrowodd! Thanks!
